Case study

Bindr (bindr.jobs)

Overview

From interviews with recruiters and candidates plus funnel analytics and support data, I translated pain points into a clearer information architecture, modern search & apply patterns, and a WCAG-aligned design system for Bindr. The result: faster discovery of relevant roles, a simpler apply flow, higher-signal candidate pipelines for employers, and a scalable foundation for the marketplace, employer tools, and integrations.

Client

Bindr Pty Ltd. (bindr.jobs)

Partner

Internal product, engineering, and data teams

Role

Lead UI/UX and graphic designer

Scope

Candidate experience

Modern responsive site/app with clearer role pages and a streamlined layout.

Employer dashboard

Job posting, branded templates, pipeline management, and team collaboration.

Search & AI parsing/matching

Faceted search, saved searches/alerts, recommendations, AI CV parsing/matching and duplicate detection.

Integrations & data

ATS/webhooks, calendar for scheduling, and reporting/exports for talent ops.

Discovery & research

Inputs included stakeholder interviews (recruiters, hiring managers, candidates), review of support tickets, conversion funnel analysis, and heuristic audits.

Candidates

  • Long forms and duplicated inputs across roles
  • Unclear compensation/requirements; low trust signals
  • Poor mobile experience; no visibility on application status

Recruiters / Hiring managers

  • Noisy inbound; weak filtering and deduping
  • Fragmented communications (email + LinkedIn + spreadsheets)
  • Limited visibility across stages and team ownership

UI Design

Early UI prioritized the candidate journey (search → job detail → apply), followed by employer workflows (create job → review → schedule → offer).

Foundations

  • Design tokens (type, color, spacing) and component library in Figma
  • Tailwind-based system; responsive patterns; WCAG 2.1 AA
  • Performance guardrails (media placeholders, reserved slots to prevent CLS)

Artefacts

  • End-to-end user flows and wireframes for candidate and employer sidesa
  • Interactive prototypes for usability testing and stakeholder alignment
  • Component specs and redlines; variant matrix for states/errors/empty screens

Constraints

  • 3rd-party UIs (AuthorIT, Qualtrics, SharePoint) limited visual styling
  • Consultation Portal visuals pending policy clarity

Challenges & tensions

Policy & governance

  • Compliance vs. speed — Collecting legally required info without bloating apply.
  • Bias reduction — Inclusive language guidance and structured data for fair screening.
  • Signal vs. volume — Encouraging quality applications and deterring spam/duplicates.
  • Change management — Migrating existing teams to new pipelines and workflows.

Outcomes

The design delivered a cohesive system that reduces cognitive load, improves task completion, and sets up Bindr for scale and iteration.

Candidate experience

  • Reduced apply steps (profile import, validation, autosave)
  • Clear compensation, requirements, and process expectations
  • Application status tracking and consistent email/in-product updates

Search & discovery

  • Faceted search (role, seniority, location, remote, salary bands)
  • Saved searches and alerts; recommended roles based on profile signals
  • Faster job detail scanning with standardized sections and highlights

Employer tools

  • Structured job creation with reusable branded templates
  • Pipeline views (stage columns), bulk actions, and team notes/mentions
  • Duplicate detection and candidate merge prompts; simple scheduling

User-centred evidence

  • Iterative usability tests (lo-fi → hi-fi) and moderated sessions
  • Stakeholder design reviews; design QA with engineering before rollout
